Week 10: Evalution of Course

This course has been insightful and helped me understand blogging (which was a new concept to me), internet history and background, privacy on the internet, cyberpunk which I learned so much about, however, cultural jamming I still do not quite understand. The assignment that was given with the cultural jamming subject was hard to understand and achieve. It felt as if not only I, but the whole group was not sure what we were doing or how to achieve it.

Week 1 - The start up with a nice introduction to the course. We all made our blogs - which I really liked because the whole online concept was a good idea since everyone is almost glued to their little digital devices. It was quite easy to get into, however the publishing of posts was difficult since the text sometimes had huge gaps or the color I had chosen did not come up.

Week 2 - This was my favorite week so far as we started with cinema and filming which continued into the TuteSpark with our own video. Had never done anything like that before and showed me how simple it was to post a video onto YouTube with some music playing in the background. Was very pleased with the video Jordan and I had made, and it was - as I said - super easy!

Week 3 - Though I might not remember the lecture I clearly remember the Treasure Hunt assignment, which took me just over 2 hours to complete. Some of the things to find was so hard and challenging, even with the internet aiding me. It was also a good learning experience to see how much information the internet provides, both good and bad. Let me add, Ozzy Osbourne's address - not easy! We also had a bit of homework with the 3 digital devices - quite simple, yet fun as they were to be analogue. Learnt about the difference between digital, analogue, non-digital and electronic.

Week 4 - Short films that I found for this week were so fun, there are many available websites that provide short films. I had not known much about them before, reminds me about week 2 and the video made. Since finding out about short films. I have actually continued checking out sites and have now found a love for the short films. Therefore, I loved the assignment for this week. The Star Wars parody short film that was shown in the lecture was pretty good, really liked that.

Week 5 - Culture Jamming. As mentioned earlier, not very found of this topic whatsoever. As mentioned I did not quite understand the subject or the assignment that went with it (both group work and individual) and it might have shown in my work. I hope not, really hope not. This topic could have perhaps been discussed more.

Week 6 - Social networking and the privacy issues that goes with it, well spent time learning about it. Although I am aware of it, there was stuff that I did not know and became aware of - probably even scared of. Putting me off social networking for sure.

Week 7 - Liked how the lecturer provided us with free software and talked about how many sites there are out there for the public, not only profit making companies behind the expensive software. Was delighted to hear about Creative Commons, as it is an excellent site for people who need to get their work out there. Sharing content on the internet should be a fact. Tried out Mozilla Firefox at home and was pleasantly surprised, a better browser for me.

Week 8 - Was very worried about the topic Cyberpunk. So much to be said about it, yet still confusing. Thankfully, by doing the tute task & tute spark, I understood more about it. The assignment was very fun, liked redoing the article and adding the cyberpunk mentality to it - dark and a world full of robots!

Week 9 + 10 - Currently on the essays, which is hard work - breaking it down is not as easy as I thought it would be. Doing the last one on the list, and it is full on! Will continue researching, as I started in week 9 and will hopefully be done with my research this week, so next week will be the start of the essay.
